Driving home from town
I turn onto my street
the third driveway on the left
is mine.
Today I took the right drive
up to my house
and up near the top,
big rocks line the side of the road.
They had not been there
when I left in the morning,
Carefully, so as not to damage my car,
I drive past them.
I am puzzled to find out
why they are there.
Neighbor John put them there
to have a visual of the property line.
He is too cheap to have it surveyed,
and thus, he makes our lives miserable.
Or so he believes!
I will take pictures and file a complaint
if he is not open to dialogue
because we have the right of way,
and this is infringing upon this right.
Ever since he moved here, four years ago,
his erratic and bizarre behavior
has caused me anxiety and worry
because he came over in the dark.
He banged on our front door,
screaming in our faces
accusing us that our dog
murdered his free-ranging chicken.
She didn’t.
He stood behind our parked cars
yelling that we were trespassing
on his land, when we are not!
We tried to reason with him.
We suggested he get a surveyor
to put his mind at ease,
and, yet, to this date,
he hasn’t.
Instead he moved rocks
in our driveway.
